Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and naturally around this time of year, we all tend to spend a little more time thinking about the things we’re thankful for.
This year, I’ve caught myself reflecting on this more often than usual.
(Warning: This is the point at which I should alert you that things are about to get a little mushy… Prepare yourself.)
For me, Thanksgiving is a time of family gathering together for a joyous occasion. It’s also a time to remember and give thanks for friends, both old and new. I like to spend a few moments thinking of how those special people came into my life and all the joy and memories they have brought to our friendship.
Since graduating college and moving away to start anew, I’ve learned that true friendship is something of great value.
People come and go in and out of your life, but that long-lasting friendship that comes with shared memories, silly moments and growing up — that sort of friendship is rare. My family and close friends are everything to me, no matter the distance or time between catch-up calls. I treasure those relationships each day.
As a reminder of that love and support, last year, I decided to start keeping a card wall where every single card, letter and thank you note lives. As I pass by it every day, it’s a perfect reminder of all of the love and friendship there is to be appreciated…and as you can see, this thing is bursting end to end with loving words and support!! I don’t know about you, but receiving mail from those I love most is a highlight of my week; and I simply cannot bring myself to throw out a single card. (Who said snail mail was dead??)
So as we approach this week, I want to thank you.
To all of my family and friends, thank you for always being there, for your kindness through the years, and thank you for just being the you that I grew to know and love. You all are the best friends and family a girl could ask for.
End mushy parade.
I’m also extremely excited about the food. But nervous about the fact that I found myself in charge of making deviled eggs. Tonight. Wish me luck…
